Pastor's Column

The Season of Light

The busy-ness of life often overwhelms us and makes life all too much about "business" rather than living. The contrast between winter's dark nights and summer's days is Nature's way to help us appreciate the light. With more time to reflect and recover from the busy-ness of life, the Season of Light is a chance to appreciate YOUR own inner light. Our traditions of Christmas, Hanukkah, and Divine Light are beautiful expressions of this Light.

We are told by a Spirit Guide, White Eagle, through the Mediumship of Grace Cooke, the in the spirit world they also celebrate this season. They do this with a Christmas festival, trees and lights! I am wishing you all a season filled with spiritual light- the illumination from your soul's connection to Source-- lighting your way with wisdom, joy, and love.

As a gift, I'd like to share an excerpt about this season with you, from White Eagle's The Way of the Sun:

You hear so much about the angels coming to the shepherds; and we would remind you all of the help you could receive from the angels if only you would open your hearts to receive this blessing. When you attune yourselves, through love, to the Son, the angels are able to get their help through to you. It is so much more difficult for them and for us to help you when you are mentally rigid, or when you are depressed. But if you will make the effort to break through the bonds of the material mind...then you will find an immediate response in the help that comes to you from our world and from the angels. But do remember that the handle of the door is on your side...

We would like to think also of the invisible worlds and the mystic presence which is upon the earth at this season.; for invisible hosts draw very near to the earth...remember your angelic and spiritual visitors, and to throw open the door of your soul to receive them at Christmas time.

-Rev. Drew Vogt

Everyday Blessings- Christmas Angel Tree

Our SCOL Blessing Bowl for December will sponsor the children at Everyday Blessings. Last year our community was very generous in making the season a special time for the children in-need. If you are unfamiliar with this phenomenal organization, Everyday Blessings is a not-for-profit located close to us on Bahia Vista. It is funded totally from charitable contributions. It proved a safe location for children who have been remove from their home due to serious family issues, sometimes at very short notice. They provide a safe environment and keep siblings together. They have total of 12 boys/girls in ages 10-17. The Angel Tree will be in the lobby. All donations and contributions welcome. Let's make this Holiday special for these wonderful children! Any questions, see Lyn, Jody or Kathy.

Considering a Membership at SCOL

Our spiritual family is a joy for many! Often folks ask about how to become members, so we'd like to explain how simple it is in 5 easy steps:

1. We offer a free Basic Concepts Class at least twice per year, comprised of two condensed classes on our beliefs and history, usually taught by Senior Pastor Rev. Drew Vogt. Attendance at these is required and allows us a chance to get to know each other; however, attending does not require you to become a member.

2. Upon completion of the Basic Concepts Class, ask a SCOL member to be your Sponsor.

3. Fill out a blue SCOL Petition for Membership card, and a letter or short explanation about your reason for joining. These are usually available in the lobby or office.

4. Submit this to us.

5. Upon approval, we will contact you to set a date for you New Members Ceremony. This is comprised of a short candle lighting ceremony which is usually a part of one of the Sunday services.

Lastly, in accordance with the Bylaws to be  a voting member, you must be a member for 6 months and attend at least two services per month. If you have any questions regarding membership, please contact Rev. Drew or any of our Board of Directors. We look forward to welcoming you!

Lighting the Way

We invite you to contribute to our Endowment Fund for the Center's long-term fiscal health. All contributors, whether a direct donation or bequest, will be considered as "principal" of the fund and cannot be withdrawn. The interest from the Endowment Fund can be used for the Center. Management of the fund will be kept with our Trusted Amerprise Financial Advisor.

We have two informative brochures that explain ways to give: Lighting the Way for the Future, and Living and Thriving in the Flow; both are available in our lobby or can be mailed for our office. Let's all think of ways to leave part of our resources to the Center in the future. In this way, many thousands of people who come after us will be able to find the same love, harmony and education that has drawn us here. Thank you for supporting this ministry.
