Pastor's Column

Creating from Unconditional Love

This weekend I am performing a wedding. I love weddings-- attending them and conducting them. There's always such a positive, hopeful feeling in the ceremony it's absolutely delicious! I believe this is the type of positive energy we were designed as spirit beings to live in-- even while here on planet earth. That pure positive space of a dedicated love resonates with the perfection of our spirit self-- even though ego and fear may be present.

It is no wonder that marriage, the most sacred of human commitments, has such a deep power to affect us to the core of our being. The more we can attain that type of unconditional love in our daily lives, the easier and smoother all of our relationships will be.

Living, acting and speaking in loving ways springs from our inner being that is already pure positive love-- so why not just let it out? Live in that natural state of being and see the beauty of its manifestations.

Each relationship or project I embark on, I strive to commit it to Spirit for Spirit's use. This spiritualizes it! I offer this "secret" to you as well, a way to launch new and seemingly miraculous results. With this you can enter the process of creating new realities from a pure positive intention.

Here is the "secret essence" from which rise new worlds. In the words of Silver Birch, a Spirit Guide, "I dedicate this temple to the service of the Great Spirit and His children. This is a hallowed spot where the two worlds of matter and spirit merge and become one, where the power of the Great Spirit reveals itself."

--In Great Love, Rev. Drew L. Vogt

Moving Ahead

Even though Florida bill itself as a place of Endless Summer, we who call the Sunshine State home, are aware of subtle changes in the seasons. It shows up in spiritual communities as people who took much of the summer off to go away (or stay indoors) come back to the place that give them strength, purpose and encouragement.

If you have been away for a while or if our community is new to you, welcome! Sarasota Center of Light is a place of Love, Learning and Life in all its creative glory. Enjoy our services as well as the rich diversity of classes, events and workshops that we offer. If your spiritual path is uppermost in mind, we are a haven for you! Our greatest asset will always be our friendly people, many of whom are volunteers that help in any way possible with evident joy and remain ever on the lookout for new ways to be of service.

2015 still have months to go and SCOL has a lot to share, so consider yourself invited to show up, jump in and stick around. If the spiritual life is what excites you, we believe you won't find a livelier place on the sun coast!

For Your Information: Administrative Changes

Effective August 1, 2015 the SCOL Board has instituted a change in the division of responsibility and authority between the Senior Pastor and administrative officials included the Board President, all Board members in their respective capacities and Sarah Oyola, who has accepted the appellation as General Office Manager to accurately reflect her ongoing duties.

This division of work responsibilities is in fact an acknowledgement and natural consequence of applying the exiting By-Laws. To wit:

Section 2. President. "The President shall preside at all meetings of the Board, the Annual Meeting, and any Special Meetings; shall supervise the business affairs of the Center; shall appoint all committees..."

Section 1. Senior Pastor. "The Senior Pastor of the Center is the spiritual leader that has been selected by the Board and approved by majority vote of the Voting Members."

Per the separation of work responsibilities as stated above, adjustment of compensation for the Senior Pastor was approved by the Board, also effective August 1, 2015.

The action herein described was adopted by majority vote of the Board in compliance with our By-Laws which govern conduct of daily business affairs and spiritual matters as well as being a practical necessity for more efficient operations at Sarasota Center of Light.

Planning For Success

We invite you to contribute to our Endowment Fund for the Center's long-term fiscal health. All contributors, whether a direct donation or bequest, will be considered as "principal" of the fund and cannot be withdrawn. The interest from the Endowment Fund can be used for the Center. Management of the fund will be kept with our Trusted Amerprise Financial Advisor.

We have two informative brochures that explain ways to give: Lighting the Way for the Future, and Living and Thriving in the Flow; both are available in our lobby or can be mailed for our office. Let's all think of ways to leave part of our resources to the Center in the future. In this way, many thousands of people who come after us will be able to find the same love, harmony and education that has drawn us here. Thank you for supporting this ministry.

Considering a Membership at SCOL

Our spiritual family is a joy for many! Often folks ask about how to become members, so we'd like to explain how simple it is in 5 easy steps:

1. We offer a free Basic Concepts Class at least twice per year, comprised of two condensed classes on our beliefs and history, usually taught by Senior Pastor Rev. Drew Vogt. Attendance at these is required and allows us a chance to get to know each other; however, attending does not require you to become a member.

2. Upon completion of the Basic Concepts Class, ask a SCOL member to be your Sponsor.

3. Fill out a blue SCOL Petition for Membership card, and a letter or short explanation about your reason for joining. These are usually available in the lobby or office.

4. Submit this to us.

5. Upon approval, we will contact you to set a date for you New Members Ceremony. This is comprised of a short candle lighting ceremony which is usually a part of one of the Sunday services.

Lastly, in accordance with the Bylaws to be  a voting member, you must be a member for 6 months and attend at least two services per month. If you have any questions regarding membership, please contact Rev. Drew or any of our Board of Directors. We look forward to welcoming you!
